Centre for Private Sector Engagement

Background

Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) has been engaging with the private sector since many years. This engagement includes research, data analysis, capacity building and outreach & advocacy support on various economic and business friendly policies in Pakistan. Since 2016, Centre have conducted:

  • 6 firm levels surveys.
  • 36 Public Private Dialogues.
  • Engaged around 8000 relevant stakeholders.

In perspective of the increasing demand by private sector, SDPI decided to converge all the private sector related activities into the Centre for Private Sector engagement which was approved by the Fellow’s Research Council on on May 13, 2019.

Objectives

  • To improve the private sector’s voice in policy decision making by providing evidence-based support.
  • To make private sector aware and enhance their capacity regarding sustainable development in Pakistan.
  • To advocate the sustainability and private sector friendly policies to the relevant policy makers ensuring transparency and accountability.

Activities

The Centre is actively engaged in the following activities:

  • Evidence creation through collection of primary data from relevant stakeholders using mixed method research, data analysis and documentation of the policy recommendations.
  • Engagement of all relevant stakeholders in sectoral and geographically inclusive series of public private dialogues using the National Network of Economic Think Tanks.
  • Campaigning for sustainable development and private sector inclusive policies through social, print, and electronic media

Building capacity of stakeholders on various aspects of policy, communication, research, and management.

Team

  • Centre for Private Sector Engagement is being led by Dr. Abid Q. Suleri, Executive Director, SDPI and Dr. Vaqar Ahmed, Joint Executive Director, SDPI
  • In Charge of the Centre with regards to coordination, planning and management is Mr. Ahad Nazir
  • Research and coordination team includes Mr. Abdullah Khalid and Syed Mujeeb Ur Rehman.
  • Data collection support is provided by Mr. Syed Hassan Murtaza on need basis.
  • Advocacy and capacity building is being taken care by relevant SDPI departments.
